default
Posted on Fri, 18 Feb 2022
Question: Im 91, have severe hip pain. I've been prescribed Meloxicam 15 mg - 1 pill daily and Tramadol 50 mg - up to 3 pills per day.

My former doctor has retired and I don't have anyone I know or trust to turn to.

These meds are not reducing my pain and I can not sleep or find a way to get comfortable in any way.

What do you recommend? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
Can be due to osteoarthritis.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The pain in the hip that you have can be related to the osteoarthritic changes in the hip joint. You have been prescribed strong pain killers that are not helping. You can do a hot compress thrice a day and apply a local analgesic gel on it for temporary relief. Regular calcium and vitamin D3 supplements will also help.

Do get an MRI scan of the hip done to find out the cause of pain. Oral muscle relaxants and regular physiotherapy exercises can help in reducing the pain.

I hope this answers your query.
In case you have additional questions or doubts, you can forward them to me, and I shall be glad to help you out.

Wishing you good health.

I believe my physiotherapy exercises are doing me more harm than good.

When you mention Oral muscle relaxants, what are some to consider, are there any decent over the counter ones?

Also what are your thoughts about Gabaventon(sp?)

Thank you.
