How Can Red Sores At The Corners Of The Mouth Be Treated?

default
Posted on Fri, 9 Dec 2016
Question: For a week or two I have had the red sores at the corner of my mouth. Over the counter stuff, A and D ointment helping, but it's still lingering and one side is a bit larger. They seem to ebb and flow, larger one day, crusted over another, smaller barely visible, larger and hurts when I open my mouth wide. I have acyclovir (sp) already and have been taking 2/3 a day but not always consistently. Any ideas? Thank you, XXXXX

Brief Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concern.

From. what you are describing, the red sores at the sides of your mouth are possible cold sores taking into acute their onset for 1 week now. Please send a photo to me to confirm this.

Aciclovir cream locally when apply for about 3-5 consecutive days can help. Apply twice daily.

There would take time to completely recover. You might need another week to get completely healed.

Get plenty of fluids, take vit. C and antiinflammatory meds like ibuprofen or paracetamol.

Keep good oral hygiene, can use oral antiseptic spray.

Hope this helps. Wish fast recovery.
