Posted on Tue, 26 Sep 2017
Question: Hello Doctor, I'm 32 years old Male, I work 8-9 hours desk job on laptop, drive bike for about 1.5 hours everyday. I don't much exercises but does help my wife with household duties. I'm about 66 kgs in weight and 5.2 height. Since last 6 months I have been facing lower back pain. Even if I hold my 1 year baby for about 5 minutes I'm feeling a severe pain. Back become stiff and painful. I also feel numbness or tingling sensation in the week. I feel better when someone punches me in the back (in the pain area) or if I have a massage. I have occasional constipation too. I have done all tests a few months ago and I have Vitamin B12 and C deficiency because I'm a veggie and not exposed to much sunlight. Please suggest what could be the problem and which specialty doctor I should be visiting. Is it a problem with nerves, bones, kidneys? I'm a little worried.

Brief Answer:
Can be a postural back pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
You are suffering from what we call the industrial back ache. The first step is to ensure that you maintain an appropriate posture while working on the computer. Take frequent stretch breaks and drink lots of water. Discontinue using pillow while sleeping straight. Do not lift heavy objects, especially after bending down. Eat a healthy wholesome meal which should satisfy your minerals and proteins requirement. Eat a diet rich in fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables, nuts, milk, eggs, pulses and cereals.Do brisk walking exercise for 40 minutes daily. Get 6-8 hours of refreshing sleep daily.
Do start with swimming.this will good for most back pains.

The most essential and long lasting remedy is exercises. There are certain back strengthening and neck isometric exercises that you must learn from a physiotherapist and perform them at home or work whenever possible. You can also undergo a weeks session of traction at your physiotherapist's clinic.

Last but not least, if its unbearable take medications or muscle relaxant prescribed by your physician. And if it has been long standing illness visit your orthopaedician and clinically-radiologically establish a diagnosis to commence definitive treatment.

I hope this answers your query.
