How Can One Get Rid Of An Unrelenting Cough?

Question: I have an unrelenting cough appreently due to chest congestion. Started to come Wednesday of last week. Does not seem to be abating. Are there food, fluids, medications I should try? Dayquil and NyQuil seemed to have limited effect.

Hi,

You should try Guaiphenesin three to four times a day for four days in case you have not used it. Robitussin X is the brand that is over the counter. DayQuil has not Guaiphenesin in it. This helps loosen the mucus and bring it out.

You should try steam inhalations with Vicks vaporub.

Avoid anything refrigerated. Prepare food fresh at home and have it.

Increase water intake and soups (chicken broth soup) which helps to loosen the mucus.

If the above does not help you need to get a clinical examination for the prescription of an antibiotic.
