Question: Hello, I'm a 47 year old female, with degenerative arthritis in my neck. It causes pain in the right shoulder blade area. About 9 months ago that area became numb. In the last month, my fingers have begun to tingle and go numb, causing pain and aggravation.....in the last week my toes and balls of my feet have begun to do the same.

could my hair loss be related?

Brief Answer:
Cervical spondylois.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
I have gone through your query and health concerns in detail , you are suffering from cervical spondylosis.
Stiff neck with tingling and numbness in the ring and little finger along with some swelling is suggestive of a nerve root compression at the cervical vertebral level due to degenerative disc changes or cervical spondylosis. It happens primarily due to degenerative changes secondary to age in the cervical spine. Past neck injury may also contribute to the degeneration.

X-ray of neck in lateral view or MRI will help in the diagnosis.

Treatment includes
1. Use of cervical collar helps in immobilisation and brings relief.
2. Medical drugs like pain killers - acetaminophen/ibuprofen and muscle relaxants might be helpful.
3. Methylcobalamin supplements are also recommended for nerve compression symptoms.
4. Cervical isometric exercises are beneficial to maintain the strength of the neck muscles. Neck and upper back stretching exercises, as well as light aerobic activities, also are recommended under the guidance of a physical therapist.
5. Hot fomentation helps in relieving acute symptoms.
6. You can avoid using a pillow.

I hope this answers your query.

I thought something like that was happening, but it's all my fingers. more so from the first finger to the ring finger, not the pinkie at all. And my toes and the ball of my foot being numb is concerning ,are the feet involved in this? Also what mcg, and delivery system do you recommend for the methylcobamin? I have an inversion table should I use it or not? How effective would a chiropractor be in your opinion?

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The symptoms in the fingers is suggestive of a nerve root compression. The affected fingers are supplied by different nerves so your pinky finger is not affected.
The numbness of feet is due to similar changes in the lumbar spine. You need to have 1500 mcg daily sublingual supplementation of methylcobalamin to help these.
You can use an inversion tablet also. It is better to consult an orthopedician rather than a chiropractic as you have nerve related symptoms.
Hope my answer is helpful.
