Question: sir i've been suffering from indigestion and irregular bowel, these symptoms have increased exponentially from my early 20s to my present age-30. I take rabeprazole sodium enteric coated with domperiodne sr capsules in empty stomach morning and enzyme daily after meal to prevent chances of bloating and cramping even though i take small meals. i also take lactifiber daily at night to have a bowel pressure in the morning. The above medications have become a part and parcel of my life without these i'm unable to sleep peacefully or work in the morning. Also im suffering from depression and anxiety so a psychiatrist prescribed me a combination of antidepressants like paxidep, wellbutrin xl and prozac like a trial and error method for the last 2 years. right now i'm on prozac20 which i take in the morning after breakfast. i've also gained weight, 85kg height-5ft7inch. I do exercise and yoga almost daily but nothing is working.i think my body is running on outside medications only. i want to overcome it.

Brief Answer:
Some tests should be done before treating you for IBS.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a very common disorder which affects the colon (large intestine). It causes indigestion, gas, bloating, abdominal pain and cramping. Irritable bowel syndrome is usually long term. Symptoms may vary from patient to patient.

However, IBS is a diagnosis of exclusion as there is no test to confirm you have IBS. It means that when you have nothing or all your investigations are normal, you are labelled as having IBS.

What exactly is IBS?
- A common disorder affecting the large intestine is irritable bowel syndrome. Abdominal pain, bloating, gas and diarrhea are some of the signs and symptoms of IBS. Foods, stress and other diseases can trigger the problem.

However, the exact cause of irritable bowel syndrome is not yet known but studies suggest that a lot of factors play a major role.

Can you please enclose the reports of endoscopy, ultrasound abdomen, stool test or any other abdominal tests done by your doctor. Before giving further suggestion, I want to go through them.

Were you treated with anti cholinergics like mebeverine etc?

Awaiting your reply.
