As per your query firstly i would say that don't panic. Hepatitis B usually causes chronic infection and puts patients at high risk of death from cirrhosis and liver cancer.However with advent of vaccine and antivirals mortality is reduced to less then 5% patients.Hepatitis B vaccine is more then 95% effective in preventing infection and the development of chronic disease and liver cancer due to hepatitis B.
As per the recommendations of WHO-
-All patients with chronic hepatitis B infections, including adults, should be monitored regularly since they are at increased risk for developing cirrhosis, liver failure, or liver cancer.
Current treatments for hepatitis B fall into two general categories:
Immune modulator Drugs – These are interferon-type drugs that boost the immune system to help get rid of the hepatitis B virus.This stimulates the immune system to attack the hepatitis B virus and regain control over it. It's usually given by injection once a week for 48 weeks.
Antiviral Drugs – These are drugs that stop or slow down the hepatitis B virus from reproducing, which reduces the inflammation and damage of your liver. These are taken as a pill once a day for at least 1 year and usually longer. Either tenofovir or entecavir, OR both of which will be given to you.
With proper medication mortality is very low.
So don't worry just discuss the options with internal medicine specialist.
Repeat Liver function and Hepatitis B titre every 2 months initially.
