How Can Constipation With Stomach Pain Be Treated?

Question: Have never really had much problems with heart burn . Went twenty years no constepation , suddenly constipated , stomach hurting for five days and feel constent need to belch .Antiacids and pepto do not help much.

I have gone through your detalis and i appreciate your concerns.
Before comming to solution of problem let me explain you the possible reason behind these symptoms.
Our gut microbiota contains tens of trillions of microorganisms, They are referred to as good bacterias or microflora of gut.They helps the body to digest certain foods that the stomach and small intestine have not been able to digest..
Along with these good bacterias there are commmunities of bad bacteria's also.Nature has a mechanism which in a healthy individual automatically maintains a balance between good and bad bacterias.However gut microbiota’s balance can be affected during the ageing process and, consequently, the elderly have substantially high probality of having a disbalance of this microflora in case they have gastric isssue in past. Loss of balance in gut microbiota may arise in some specific situations. This is called dysbiosis. when we ingest food it is acted upon by good flora of gut causing complete digestion and absobtion of food.However in case of constipation the bad bacterias overnumber the good bacteria's hence food would be acted upon by harmful bacteria's and yeast leading to incomplete fermenatation of food.Incomplete fermentation of food produces excessive gases in intestines.these gases apply pressure on wall of intestines causing spasmodic pain in intestines.

So as per the discussion the root cause of all the problem is constipation.So if we manage constipation other problems will settle down on their own.

Initially i would recommend you to start taking Lactulose 15-30 ml once or twice daily to make stools loose.It's a laxative and is very safe.
Along with it start taking any good over the counter probiotic like econorm thrice daily.This will effectively deal with dysbiosis,The earlier the gut flora is repleted the faster would be the recovery.

Take 2tsf of Psyllium husk and soak it for half an hour in XXXXXXX warm milk.Once it swells up take it.It's a natural laxative and is very helpful in adding bulk to the stools and provide immidiate relief in constipation.

Herbal salt ashwagandha can also be taken once daily to relieve you from constipation.

Apart from medication dietary and life style modifications are very essential in long term-

-Eat more fiber. Fiber is a natural laxative.Try to take about 40 grams of fibers daily.Take a cup full of banana,pear,apple and oranges in morning and a cup of vegetables like broclli spinach etc in evening.
Eat prunes,Grapes and banana.
Avoid cheese and dairy products.You can take limited amount of warm skimmed milk.
Take castor oil and olive oil in food.
Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily.Water is a lubricant and prevents stool from drying and becoming hard.
Take magnesium supplements.
Don't Eat Too Much at a time.Split your meals into frequent small meals..
Be Careful With Sugar Alcohols.
Take Digestive Enzyme Supplements like Aristozyme twice daily.

Follow what I said for 5 days if still not relieved Colonoscopy procedure could be planned for the purpose of inspecting the entire colon and rectum.
