Posted on Sat, 27 May 2017
Question: Hi, for the last 4.5 months, my tonsils have been in immense discomfort. First it was my left side then my right. My lymph nodes are swollen on my left and starting to swell on my right. Im also getting ear pain in my left ear and feels like im losing my hearing. My tonsils are red with white gooey substance in the crypts and veins that are visible. As well as a canker sore in either side of my mouth that have been there for nearly 3 mths. Ive been tested for strep and mono, both negative and have had a few blood tests.

Brief Answer:
Chronic tonsillitis- requires surgery

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I had gone through your question and the uploaded image. I understand your concerns that you are having tonsillitis.

As per your clinical details and the image, it appears to be chronic tonsillitis ( 4-5 months).

In my opinion, Chronic tonsillitis should be manged with surgery, medications will not help.

Chronic tonsillitis can lead to complications like peritonsillar abscess, snoring with sleep apnea and rheumatic fever, eusthacian tube dysfunction( ear blockage).

Hence, kindly go ahead with the surgery.

Mean time, continue salt water gargling, avoid chilled products ( curd/ ice creams), avoid frequent cold episodes.

Hope this answers your question, if you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.

Wishing you good health.
