Question: My daughter is13 weeks pregnant with her second baby. She was diagnosed with gestational diabetes during her pregnancy which was completely controlled by diet alone. She failed her initial glucose tolerance test and is booked for the 3 hour test next week. Her OB advised her to have 2 regular sized candy bars after each meal the 2 days prior to the test. Does that make any sense

Brief Answer:

Glucose tolerance.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.

Adding candy bars after a meal makes only sense, that is to test the maximum of her glucose tolerance.

Otherwise, for 3 hours glucose tolerance test, it is always advised to take complete meals for 3 days prior to the test, without following any diabetic diet.

Taking candy bars 2 days prior is unlikely to affect the values of the test.

Hope I have answered your query.

Take care
