Posted on Fri, 14 Apr 2023
Question: Hi I am 28 years old male.
I have very less facial hairs. I am not able to grow beard and moustache.
I am 6.3 ft tall and weighing 92 KG. I have less hairs on my body too.
I have underarm hair and pubic hair.
Because of this my confidence gets low. Can this be improved with medication? Shall I go for hair transplant?

Brief Answer:
Any tests done for the problem that you are facing?

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The complaints that you have are all pertaining to testosterone level or functional abnormality. So have you taken any tests for the same?
I would be requiring your Lh, FSH, testosterone, TSH, ft4, cortisol levels initially to reach to any conclusion.

Get these reports and send them to me please.

Hello Dr XXXXXXX

Thank you for your reply.

I have not undergone any tests till date.

Do I need any prescription to do these tests?

What kind of pathology carries out such tests?

Brief Answer:
Any lab would do these tests for you from a blood sample.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Please go in a fasting state, early morning, between 8 am to 9 am and give a blood sample. You can ask them for these tests and they will do it and give you reports within few hours. a prescription is not necessarily required for lab testing, if you are in XXXXXXX

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

Dear Doctor,

I will be going through the tests.

While I was booking these tests, I gone through the information on Dr.Lal pathology site and got to know that "Lh, FSH" tests are for female.

Do I need to go through it?

PS: I also want to mention that my male organ works fine and I am sexually active.

Brief Answer:
LH , FSH are hormones secreted by pituitary in both males and females

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Hair growth is a secondary sexual character which is under the control of LH, FSH and T. so these needs to be evaluated. sexual activity normal with scanty hair, actually sound a genetic variant, with no major pathology involved.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

It is entirely your wish to get tested or not.

Hello,

We can only suggest things to do, whether you do or not, is up to you. If it is genetic, nothing much can be done. If it is pathological, it may be treatable.

is it very bad situation?
doctor
Answered by Dr. Minal Mohit (4 minutes later)
Brief Answer:
Cannot comment online.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

It is not a very clear situation to comment online. Ideally, you will need further testing which might make all things absolutely clear, no treatment required or it might give us the diagnosis to the underlying problem, which definitely can be managed.

It is not a bad situation that I am advising you to see a doctor, it is just that the reports have not given us a clear 'Yes' or a clear 'No' to the underlying problem.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.

I am scared after seeing your reply regarding "all hormonal reports are on the lower side". What are the repercussions of it?

we had discussed about genetic and pathological effect behind the facial hair growth issue, which one I am suffering from?

Can you please elaborate more on this?

I don't have any other bad symptoms because of this hormonal imbalance except the case we discussed.

I will see a local endocrinologist here for sure before that I want to have your advice on this.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

I also want to know that is it a good option to go for hair transplant in this case?

Since my facial hair are very thin, will transplant help here?
