How Can Allergic Reaction To Methadone Be Managed?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 May 2017
Question: ( I think I had a allergic reaction to methadone.

can when switching from another pain med to methadone cause a two day loss of memory where you are still functioning. I took first pill and woke up sitting on side of bed with wife freaking out as my breathing was shutting down/followed by horrible trip to hospital. put on breathing machine. two months later same thing happened but I had not taken any pain meds dr this time said it was a perfect storm which I think meant he did not know. also any help on this would be appreciated. had total hip replacement in dec 01. got a depuy pinnacle metal on metal. started having pain at first year. 6 years later saw orthopedist. had no explanation for hip pain but did diagnose I had 2 bulging disks. when I started getting a glimmer that the chromium in steel was problem my dr would not see me. about every orth. in town, got appointment with orthopedic surgen at emory by not giving primary complaint. he took x-ray and told me I had plastic liner. I had a folder of info with me. he said do not pay any attention to that. I had gotten my entire original chart from 01. I have all 4 labels from pinnacle my liner is metal. blood test for unusual reason was sent 3 states away. came back high normal right at edge. found out lab has close relationship with depuy and parent J and J. to complicate further broke my back 3 years ago.( now parapeligic) I need a doc who will work closely with me. I am scared as I have other symptoms of metalosis. In process of getting in touch with FDA in DC Think I am over some statute of limitations. that does not seem right as they went to great lengths to cover this up for as long as they could. Could use any wisdom you could share. Lost house in financial crisis which was my life savings. 63 years old. did get on SSI.
I have most of my records just let me know what you need. Or feel free to call me. I really miss my Dad right now he was a ob/gyn surgon.

Detailed evaluation is needed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

Severe allergic reaction to methdone is very rare. As you had taken methadone after the initial attack without any symptoms, allergic reaction is almost impossible.
Based on my clinical experience I am of the opinion that you had episodes of panic attacks due to unwanted anxiety and stress. However,we have to rule out conditions like anaphylaxis before making a diagnoosis even though it is rare.
Panic attacks are quite common among elderly with commodities as in your case. You need to build a positive attitude and mental support to over come this situations. Keep your self engaged, do not let unwanted thoughts to come in. Consult a psychiatrist and you might need comprehensive treatment including counselling session and anti anxiety medicines.

Coming to your hip problem, THR(total hip replacement) sometimes get failed and revision surgery may be needed. Consult an orthopedic who has expertise in joint replacement surgery. You may require a revision surgery. Also seek help from a spine surgeon.
You don't get any metallosis from hip prosthesis.

Hope I have answered your query.
Wishing you good health.
Regards.
