How Can A Swollen Cyst On The Hand Be Treated?

default
Posted on Wed, 14 Jun 2017
Question: I had hand surgery - a fusion - in November and need further surgery in a couple of weeks to repair a tendor ruptured by the guide wire and remove a bone spur, After a 20+ hour flight out of the US, my hand began to swell - I was started on Keflex by a paraprofessional and told to watch it for a couple of days, I am in Thailand I believe, however, I may have a palable cyst on the top of my hand where it is swollen. Should I continue to take the meds and wait or do something else? I do not have insurance to cover me here

1. What kind of fusion surgery was it? A bone fusion or flap?

2. Ok.. You will be undergoing surgery for tendon repair too.

3. You believe you have palpable cyst.
Is it painful or any discharge coming out of it.
If possible can you send a picture of it?
You noticed, this swelling only after flight journey?

You can take medications

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for the follow up..

Well, that is ok if you can't send pics..
Please note these following things.

1. Make sure you keep that limb elevated.
Leaving it in dependent position will increase the swelling

2. Yes, you can take Tablet Keflex and along with this better take NSAID group of pain killers.

3. You should be fine with these..
And I wish you happy recovery soon with the tendon surgery.
