How Can A Ruptured Blister On The Sole Of The Foot Be Treated?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Aug 2017
Question: About 10 days ago my doctor burned a wart on the bottom of my foot . unfortunately he was pretty aggressive and it resulted in a huge blister. He removed the top of the blister and drained the fluid so that I could walk better. I need the wound to heal as quick as possible as I am going on a major trip in 6 weeks. I applied a hydrocolloid bandage for the last 5 days but the wound does not seem to be improving. should I just apply a normal bandage with polysporin , or leave it uncovered. I can walk on the foot but it is tender. As I will be doing a lot of walking on my trip I need to know the best way to heal this wound quickly.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

I understand your concern. I do not think it was a good idea to burst the blister and drain it. Not doing so and leaving the blister go its natural course would have resulted in a faster healing. A blister will usually heal in three to seven days, but if burst, may take longer.
The problem with a burst blister is the risk of infection, so using an antiseptic cream cover loosely with a sterile gauze is the best. Do not put pressure on it and do not wear restrictive shoes.

If there is no improvement in 2-3 days I suggest you see a doctor for a blood sugar levels test.

I hope this answers your question . Let me know if you have further questions.
Wishing you good health and all the best.

So using polysporin (antiseptic cream ) covered loosely with sterile gauze is better than a hydrocolloid bandage or regular bandage with antiseptic cream?
If I use the proper wound care, will I be ok to do significant walking on my trip in 6 weeks?

Brief Answer:
Any of them will do

Detailed Answer:
Any of them will do. If the wound healing process in you body is intact then in six week you should be good to go. If not, then you will need further tests to figure out the reason for the slow healing.
I hope this answers your question.
