Question: I have gained 10 pounds. I have maintained my weight for 30 years through watching calories and diet. I have so many clothes and not they are tight. I don't want to spend money on new clothes. Is there a pill I can take to take the 10 pounds off. I know some people take them.
Please advise. My thyroid medication has been increased to 1.25.. Put I put on the weight after the increase.

Brief Answer:
Weight losing pills are not recommended in your case

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ma'am

I can certainly understand your concern.

I have worked through your attached query in detail.

Increase in weight is probably related to inadequate correction of hypothyroid state.

Hypothyroidism is known to directly contribute to weight.

It's generally not advisable to consider weight loosing pills for 10 pound excess in view of their side effects on liver and negative interaction with thyroxine hormone.

Correction of hypothyroid state with appropriate dose of thyroxine will automatically normalise the bodyweight.

Thyroxine supplementation will not cause weight gain as observed by you earlier.

It's advisable to get a latest thyroid profile test and then titrate the dosage of thyroxine accordingly.

Possibility your further queries if any.
Thank you

I have been on thyroid medication since 1995 I was diagnosed as hypothroid. Through the years my dosage has changed many times. I had been taking 1.12 for years. My new doctor reduced it to 100 in March. I went for blood work at the end of April, when the results came back she changed my dosage to 125. Do you think it is possible that I started to put on the weight when I was on the 1.00 for that month it could have caused that weight gain? XXXXXXX

Adequate control of hypothyroidism is precisely guided by TSH hormone levels. It's important to maintain TSH levels within normal range by adequate dosage of thyroxine.

Yes certainly these dose changes in thyroxine might have contributed to weight change in your case.
