Brief Answer:
Most likely unrelated to the IBS

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

Any predisposing stressor / trigger or infection can lead to an acute or worsen existing / recurrent hives. Anti histamines like loratidine can be used on a daily basis. Leukotriene receptor antagonists like montelukast can be added if the hives aren't controlled alone with antihistamines. In case of an acute flare a short course of corticosteroids like oral prednisolone can also be advised to adequately cover the symptoms.

The hands swelling with joint pains need to be further investigated. It needs to be determined clinically, whether its peripheral edema that is causing the hands to swell or is it the arthritis and associated inflammation which is causing the swelling and aches / pains.

Complete blood counts, ESR/ CRP (Inflammatory markers), thyroid function tests and a basic metabolic panel are required as part of the workup to look for a possible cause.
