Question: I took zyrtec twice today (24 hr) and just now 2 night time cold and flu (acetamineophen - 325 ea), Dextromethorphan HBr, Doxylamine Succinate). I typically take ambien (for several years now for insomnia). I am hesitant to now take ambien on top but at 4am concerned I will not sleep tonight. Can I take the ambien?

Brief Answer:
Moderate interaction

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir, I have gone through your question and I understand your concerns but taking ambien with the cold and flu preparation can lead to moderate interactions between ambien , dextromethorphan and doxylamine.. this may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, and difficulty concentrating. Some people, especially at your age may also experience impairment in thinking, judgment, and motor coordination. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications. Also avoid activities requiring mental alertness such as driving or operating hazardous machinery while taking these medications together. I hope I answered your question..
