Hi, My 43 Year Old Daughter Has Been Prescribed Eliquis

Question: Hi, my 43 year old daughter has been prescribed Eliquis for 3 superficial blood clots. She has been taking this medicine for 4+ weeks. She is slowly feeling better but says the area now feels hard to the touch. Is this a normal part of healing? Also, her doctor suggested she wear compression stockings but did not specify how much graduated compression. What would you suggest? Thank you for your help with this matter.

Brief Answer:
local hardness known, trial and error for stockings

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query about your daughter.
Noted the history and understood the concerns.
Blood clot formation in veins will cause local reaction as natural phenomenon and can cause local nodular/hard feeling.
If there is no widespread edema then nothing to worry.
Compression stockings come with gradual reduction in pressure as it goes up to the thigh; more pressure at the ankle. The size depends upon the size of patient's limb, whether ambulatory or not, trial for comfort as well as for causing just sufficient pressure so as to be acceptable. All these factors will decide which stockings hence local Doctor and provider can help to decide for the best suitable stockings.

I hope this answers your specific query.
With Regards.
Dr T Chandrakant.
