Question: Hi doctor.
In my second pregnancy.breastfeed wasnt there After delivery.so in the hospital doctor advised to give dexolac premium along with lactonic granules for me..after 2 days milk started to come and i started to give him both breastfeed and dexolac premium for 1 and half month.after that he himself stop breastfeeding and he only want formula milk..during that one week of time my milk supply stopped and since then he is on formula milk (dexolac). He is 3 month 17 days now. But he is passing green sticky stools and that too after 3-4 days. I have to use glycerine suppositories ( infant) after 2 days in order to ease him during stool so that it wont hurt him.Should i start taking lactonic granules again for myself and start to breastfeed him so that his stool will be normal or now should i wait for 6 months to complete and let it go like this only till the time i start Cerelac and solid food.
According to my pediatrician his weight is less.
He was born 2.9kg and now he is 3 month 17 days and he is 5.65 kg.( Does the weight is really less)
Thats why iam concern about his weight and asking from u that pls suggest me what to do.should i start lactonic granule and again breastfeed him (will the milk comes again??) or everything is normal i dont need to worry ???
Baby is super active..No sign of sickness. Apart from constipation..
And if everthing is ok then shall i continue to use glycerin suppositories to ease him or is there any other way to relieve him..in a day he takes 6-8 times feed 100 ml - 125 ml.

Brief Answer:
Nothing to worry

Detailed Answer:
Hi Pahel khanna,
I have gone through your story in detail, and understand your concern
Your main worries are- baby's weight, constipation and resumption of breast feeds. I will address one by one.

1. Baby's present weight:
A weight of 5.65kg at 3.5 months is pretty good. Normal weight expected is around 6kg at this age- no much shortage.

2. Constipation:
Newborns have wide variability in frequency and consistency of their stools- some pass 10-12 times a day, while others pass once in 5-7 days. All these can be taken as normal, provided baby is well and comfortable. So if there is no significant abdominal distension, persistent vomiting, or severe pain on passing a hard stool(some straining is normal), your baby's habit can be taken as normal, and no treatment or suppositories needed. You can wait up to 7 days.

3. Resumption of breast feeds.

Shifting to predominant breast milk may help to improve bowel habit, although not necessarily. You can very well do this. Breast milk always preferred over formula. Definitely we can increase milk out even now. You need not take any lactational supplements for this(even if you take, this will not harm baby)- Just try to breast feed him before giving formula, when hungry. This will promote active sucking, that will promote milk production. Give formula after emptying both breasts as a top up if needed. Gradually milk out put will increase, and amount formula needed will come down automatically. Other things that will promote milk production are- have a healthy diet rich in pulses and vegetables, drink plenty of fluids, have adequate sleep, avoid mental and emotional stress, and be always happy. Discard negative comments regarding baby's weight or milk out put from others with a smile.

In short, there nothing to worry as of now. Stay confident
If you need further clarification, I will be happy to help.
