Detailed Answer:
Good day and thank you for being with HealthcareMagic,

What antibiotic was given to you? I usually prescribe ciprofloxacin 500 mg every 12 hours for one month. To alleviate the swelling of the prostate I prescribe tamsulosin 400mcg per tab once a day at bedtime.

yes, it would make your urination normal again.

Yes, that medicine would slowly increase your urine flow because it would relax and lessen the prostate inflammation and swelling.

Is that antibiotics doc?

Answered by Dr. Manuel C See IV 0 minute later
Brief Answer:
No not an antibiotic.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for you follow up questions.

No it is not an antibiotic, it is an alpha blocker which is used to help improve urination while the prostate is inflammed. This would relax the prostate while it is swollen because of the prostatitis. Yes it would gradually improve urination and yes it would go back to normal after one month of taking the drug.

Hello, my name is Anthony and am looking for some info from a Urologist. Here are my symptoms: Frequent urination (40 x a day) low grade fever, some groin soreness (especially during ejaculation) Frequent urination is at its worse after I ejaculate. I always have the feeling I have to urinate even when I just went to the bathroom. No pain, burning, incontinence, or urine discoloration. Fatigued and some nausea. My urge to urinate is never so intense where I have to run to the bathroom. I can hold it in for quite a while if I had to. When I urinate the stream stops and goes . It feels like my muscles are tightening on and off while I go and I can t control it. Sometimes running my hand under hot water while I m peeing helps. I ve had had these symptoms for about a week. Feels better after a hot bath and after a bowel movement. I have no issues with constipation. The urine is always clear -- never yellow. Also, I don t have an STD and have never had one. A bit of info and history about myself. I m a 40 yr old smoker and have a panic disorder. I also have moderate psoriasis. Aside from that, I have no other health issues. Frequent urination has been an issue for about 10 years but the symptoms are worse now. I went to a urologist about 3 years ago and had numerous tests. Sonograms of my kidneys and bladder was normal. PSA was normal with no prostate inflammation. I tested negative for diabetes and had no protein in my urine. My blood work was also normal. The urologist gave me Flomax even though I had no prostate problem. He said I had some issues with my bladder muscles (tightness I think) He believed its related to my anxiety disorder. My frequent urination is much worse when I m stressed. The more I think about it the worse it is -- Psychosomatic? The Flomax was helpful but I moved and stopped the medication. No family history of bladder cancer or any bladder disorders. I should also mention I saw a new urologist about a year ago for a prostate exam because I have a family history of the disease. My PSA was normal and I had no prostate inflammation. He checked my urine for blood, he said because I smoke I have a high risk for bladder cancer. No blood in my urine. I almost forgot -- I drink a TREMENDOUS amount of diet Coke each day. I scheduled an appointment with a new urologist for Monday but I was hoping to get some preliminary info from this website. I m far form an expert but based on my symptoms I think I may have Prostatitis. I had it once when I was in college. I think he gave me Cipro which helped but it came back a couple of weeks later. P.S. I m a hypochondriac which I believe is important to mention. I also have a lot of difficulty urinating in public. My psychiatrist thinks I have a nervous bladder.

I m a 30y/o, Spermogram Results: volumen: 4.0 ml, pH 8.5, liquefaction time: 60 minutes, Motility: 80% progressive, Sperm Count 112.4 x 10 to the 6th power, Morphology: 80% normal, viability 90%. I understand the pH is higher than normal and can correspond to prostatic inflammation/infection, but I m asymptomatic . Should I get further testing done? Is there a way to lower pH? Thanks!

I have pressure in my lower abdomen like I am backed up. I have had a couple of bowel movements but strain to produce little result. Now it feels as if I am urinating more frequently and if I strain to push out urine or to force bowel movement it causes extreme pain in lower abdomen and can't sting throughout the penis. Is this an infection or could it be an STD? I have been married 8 years and my wife and I are faithful so not sure how that could be the case.
