Question: Hi, I was wondering if I have hyperthyroidism, or am experiencing a "thyroid storm." I am a 19 year old male previously diagnosed with psychosis not otherwise specified. I had a psychotic episode 2 years ago and it has resurfaced again after a period of 5 months without medication. Before it happened, I was very introspective, waking up with inflammation and itchiness on my back every night, and just having general angst. I have mood changes, irritability, insomnia, racing thoughts, in addition to the delusional thinking and I was wondering if there's some sort of comorbidity there that has been overlooked. I am currently taking Abilify, Cogentin and Trazodone (the latter two for the former's side effects). My sincere apologies if this is unclear. Could you help?

Additional symptoms that I failed to mention were social anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and much restlessness.

I read your query and here is my advice.

I am sorry about your situation.
I don't find it much related to thyroid storm. It looks more related to psychotic episodes and this can be a reoccurrence.
I think you may need to increase the dosage of your medications such abifily.
Talk to your psychiatrist about psychotherapy and medications dose changes.
