Hi, I Got My Tongue Pierced A Few Hours Ago.

Question: Hi, I got my tongue pierced a few hours ago. Is it normal for my throat to hurt? My glands are kind of swollen, and I read an article about someone who died from streptococcus causing a blood infection after a piercing and I want to know if I should be worried.

Hi
Any foreign body can cause infection.If the bacteria enters the main blood stream,it leads to septicemia which is a very serious condition.
Throat can get hurt in infection and inflammation
If there is any evidence of infection, appropriate Antibiotic should be taken.
You should consult a doctor and get appropriate prescription.Anti inflammatory tablet should also be added.
As piercing was done few hours back, nothing to worry as of now.

Hello! Thank you for your response. I tend to get swollen glands quite often so I had amoxicillin already, so I just took one and am going to sleep, I’ve been using a mouth wash the pierced recommended also. I probably shouldn’t have paid $25 for this, but I got worried, how would I know if it’s something to worry about?

Hi
If there is Infection,the pierced site will be swollen, red and painful.If it is severe, there will be fever also.
Amoxicillin works for Gram positive bacteria effectively.If the infection is mixed or due to Gram negative bacteria, you should take a Broad spectrum Antibiotic.
Just watch for above signs and symptoms.

My tongue doesn’t really hurt at all and it’s not swollen, just my throat. What can I do to help it? I took Tylenol, is hot or cold better?
