Suggest Treatment For Depression While On Treatment For Diabetes

Question: Hi, I am a diabetic who has suffered with depression for years and have been helped with medication but I suffering from depression now and don't know what to do. On weekends I sleep all day, don't even get dressed or go to church (which I always do), don't read which I do daily, just have no interest on it. I wat tv day and night just for something to do. I am not eating well at all. Help me! I am taking Bupropion right now.

Hello, and thanks for your question.

Depression is best treated with a combination of medication and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). You report taking Wellbutrin -- depending on the dose you are taking, perhaps increasing this would be helpful. If you are already at the maximum dose (450mg XR once daily), adding another antidepressant such as Lexapro or Zoloft might be useful. I would discuss these options with your prescribing psychiatrist.

I have been seeing a psychiatrist but she is not helping and she is such a rush that we don't get much talking done so my diabetic dr. is referring me to a new psychiatrist. I know there are many out there and that I just need to find him/her.Thank for the answer.
