How Can Non-healing Rashes In The Perianal Region Of A Child Be Treated?

Question: Hi Doctor, please find the attached pics. My daughter is 2 weeks old and is having rashes and we aren't sure why they are not subsiding even after application of Himalaya rash cream. this is the 4th day in a row. Please advise.

Hi,

I can see that your child has perianal excoriations which are otherwise referred to as diaper rash. Such rashes have occurred due to the remnant moisture in the diapers and therefore the primary thing that you need to do is to ensure that the are remains dry. It is good to know that you are applying Himalaya rash cream, but a mere application of rash cream will not help. Unless dryness of the area is ensured (at all times), there would not be enough time for healing to occur and it is needless to say that the diaper rash would persist. I understand that it might be hard to do without diapers, but you have to give it a dry. Use baby powder if needed. Be patient.
