Hi Doctor, I Have A Daughter Of Age 18 Months,
Question: Hi Doctor,
I have a daughter of age 18 Months, she was an LBW with 2 KG's at the time of birth, now she has gained adequate weight weighing around 11 KG's. We mostly find her complete HELIX part getting reddish, we took her to a pediatrician and he asked to put calamine, today is the third incident which is on the right ear and earlier it was on left ear. Is this an insect bite or can be correlated to any other problem as it keeps on popping and changing from one ear to the other. Kindly suggest.

1. Insect bite allergies. This is very common in this age. Usually no treatment is required apart from preventing insect bites. I also prescribe antihistamines like Allegra for a few days to decrease allergic response.
2. Urticaria or hives. This again could be triggered due to viral infection, temperature change, pressure, insects, foods, etc. Usually antihistamines like Allegra should help. If not settling in a few days you need to consult your doctor who might prescribe mild antiallergics or steroids.
