Question: Hello my daughter is 7 and has a cough. She had a fever at the start 3 days ago and now it has gone. No fever no chills no muscle aches but is complaining that her chest feels tight from coughing should i take her to the doctor? She is not asthmatic. Normally i would know that answer to this but i have done this in the past and they never really do much for her if she is not running a fever.

Brief Answer:
you may wait...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

It is not uncommon to have cough for a few days to week after an episode of respiratory infection. It is good to know there is no fever now and her general condition is better. In most cases the cough will pass off without any untoward incidents. All that is needed is symptomatic treatment and I will continue benadryl for now along with steam inhalation. You have been doing these already.

However I will recommend you keep a close watch on her symptoms. If the chest discomfort is troubling her or if you feel she is breathing too fast / complaints of breathing difficulty or has a wheeze, I will insist to visit a doctor. It will be reassuring if a doctor can auscultate her chest. That will be worth it even if the doctor doesn't add any more treatment.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need clarifications.

Regards
