Question: Hello. ive been having upper and lower back pain for over a year now. I had gone to both a chiropractor and a gp about it. The chiro did check and determined that i had three areas that are slightly out of place. the upper back part didnt XXXXXXX me since i had an incident with a heavy object a year prior. The gp took an x-ray of my lower back and didnt see anything wrong other than my lower back muscles spasming. I havent gone back to the chiro since i actually was starting to feel a little better. However recently ive been feeling my upper and lower back starting hurt from time to time and also the lower part of my left leg between my ancle and my knee. It seems to dull when i exercise. I thought i might have a herniated disc in my lower back but i dout it. Id like to know what you think

Brief Answer:
PIVD with Radiculopathy

Detailed Answer:
Hello Ryanvx....
Welcome to Ask a doctor.I am Dr Ajeet XXXXXXX
As per your history,it seems that you are having a disc herniation which is causing compression on the nerves leaving the spinal cord. This is the reason of pain in your left leg too (called radiculopathy ).There is a strong possibility of that because you have a history of lifting heavy weight too.
You felt better after taking supportive and symptomatic treatment which are often NSIAD and other muscle relaxant and analgesics. But the issue remained unresolved.X rays are hardly able to pick the charges of PIVD.You will need an MRI for the diagnosis.
Please send me your xrays so that I can countercheck too.
For the time being, use a hard bed go for life style modifications like avoiding bending and squatting and getting up straight from the bed.You will need some physical therapy too.Take some analgesics like Advil and some commercial preparations of vitamin B6 and apply heat.
Please revert back after a MRI Scan.
Hope that I have answered your query.
Regards.
