Hello, On 6/1 In The Evening I Felt A Minor

Question: Hello,
On 6/1 in the evening I felt a minor itch which brought my attention to my left leg calf muscle -Tibia gastrocnemius area. As I started to scratch, it looked and felt oddly larger than normal and compared to the right. I studied it at all angles, felt it and although I do not know if I was exaggerating or not I truly believe it is bigger. I also measured the circumference of the leg at that spot on both legs, tried a few times for accuracy and the left is 0.5 inches more. Today i measured again and it seemed to have gotten bigger according to measurement not by visual appearance. However, I do not know how accurate I may have been even though I tried. Although it is possible it could have been there before Monday, I do believe I would have noticed so I am alarmed by a what seems to be a out-of-nowhere lump/bump/bigger calf area do not know what to call it all of a sudden there on my leg. No redness, and no pain. My question is if you think this is a wait and see or get it checked out asap kinda situation?

Other info which I do not know if it is relevant or connected but I thought I should include just in case it is important :

Few days ago maybe a week ago-I am almost certain that same left leg was swollen, bottom half only. No pain. Just looked raised and bigger. could have sworn that whole leg looked puffed up but just wasn't positive. I do not know if it was or if it's relevant.
Before that swollen occurred, perhaps a week prior, I had at night a huge sensation of my left leg feeling heavy and that is how it began. It grew into pain as the night to the next day progressed and made it difficult to walk the next day and keep balance as the heaviness and pain spread to my right leg bottom half as well. However, important to note prior to this I was pretty sedentary for a month due to teaching remotely and needing to be at the computer so much of the day. I felt all of this the night I had gone to my classroom to pack-up and close it out hence a ton of movement and exercise at once. Again, I do not know if this is relevant or not?

Brief Answer:
disturbances with the micro circulation and venous return of lower limb.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* As per my clinical experience, the swelling over calf without any history of
trauma, week prior onset of same leg swelling with difficulty in keeping
balance indicate possible disturbances with micro circulation of the lower
limb.

* Many times, during particular postural adaptation for a long period of time
as leg dependent position, crossed leg posture do present over exertion to
the veins which are responsible for the blood supply return pumping to
vena cava via popliteal and femoral veins.

* Apparently this sounds to be wait and watch condition, however it would
be better to focus the issue with additional data.

Kindly provide me further details so that I can answer your query completely.

1. As there was mention of leg swelling and pain with difficulty in balance
before one week, but kindly mention current status of the same.
2. Can you walk comfortably right now without any pain or discomfort ?
3. Your age and weight.
4. Do you smoke ? ( as this is relevant to certain venous conditions )
5. The classroom work mentioned was not usual for me in terms of exercise?

Awaiting for your response.
Regards.

1. I currently do not experience any of the previous pain, leg swelling, or balance difficulty as before. Currently nothing hurts in the legs.
2. Yes, I can walk without pain.
3. I am 29 and 135 pounds.
4. I do not smoke, and have never in the past.
5. I had three hours to do many tasks when entering the classroom and was moving very quickly with a lot of up and down movements and fast pace. For me it was a lot as I felt it in my heart rate and feeling exerted.

I was starting to work in bed many days but would sit up in bed. It became a result of my mood as far as not moving around too much when once before my body was used to getting over 10,000 steps prior to stay-at-home, working as a teacher.

No trauma. I just have hyper-mobility and Patello femoral syndrome. Both pretty much from perhaps when I was 1 or 2 so not as a result of being an athlete or injury as I am not an athlete nor do I run due to the above. I do not know if this is relevant just thought I'd include it.

I also currently have a 16% functioning gallbladder and gallstones and getting my gallbladder removed in a month. I don't think this would be related but again just putting it out there just in case.

I also have the same kind of thing but it is above my right eye under my eyebrow ( not eyelid but above that area) where it is just skin but its like the shape of a pimple but bigger, and it has been there for a month. It is hard and it does not hurt. I know for a fact it is not a pimple. There is nothing on it just skin.

Thank you

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for the relevant details.

* As per further information, this sounds more likely to be in relation with
over exertion effect over particular muscle fibers in certain odd positions
and giving swelling issue through subclinical inflammation ( which will not
show up as redness, pain ).

My guidelines at present

- gradully pace back to your normal rhythm of work, rather than stretching a
lot at a time
- do some flexion, extension and rotational exercises of the knee and ankle
joints by yourself
- apply ice over the swelling area for 5 minutes each 3 times a day

- as there is no pain or difficulty in walking, absolutely no need of any
medicines
- whenever resting, support the calf over 3 pillows to help venous return
through elevation theory
- avoid sitting for a long period in leg dependent position or cross legs

- drink plenty of liquids and eat balanced nutritious diet to combat your
immunity level

Let me know the progress of the condition after 48 hours or early as per your need.
Have a great day.

Regards.
