Question: Hello. My wife has her lower right arm swelling. The symptoms started slowing this afternoon around 4 when we were playing golf. Now it is swelling. It is also itchy, sore, mildly numb, tingling and burning. We thought it might be spider bite from being outside today but so not see any bite marks. Note she had her sentinel lymph node removed two years ago as part of her breast cancer assessment. We are also now considering it may be lymphedema although there have been no symptoms like these prior to today. She just took a benedryl tablet and is starting an ice pack on her arm. What are your thoughts.

Brief Answer:
allergic

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir ,
Welcome to ' Ask a doctor service ' ,
As the limb is itchy besides swelling , it is allergic reaction to some insect bite or any food .
Please note that insect bites are sometimes unnoticed .
As per history , it is the diagnosis .
As you have already took benadryl , you may repeat it after 12 hours .
You should add steriod as tab prednisolone 5 mg two times , tab ranitidine 150 mg two times , painkiller as tab aceclofenic 100 mg two times .
All these are prescription drugs .
You will start seeing benefit soon .
I hope I have solved your query .

We went to ER late Saturday after not receiving a response from anyone at Ask A Doctor that evening.
Their diagnosis was a sprain or bone fracture.

Brief Answer:
Right

Detailed Answer:
Dear sir ,
As i have earlier said that the diagnosis made by me was as per symptoms given by you .
Besides , itching is not found in fracture or sprain .
As the majority diagnoses are made by direct face to face examination and xray , so the diagnosis at clinic must be ok .
Anyway , as your diagnosis is made , go ahead with treatment recommended by them .

Does hospital ER diagnosis seem correct given the itchiness ? No fracture appeared in the XRay but they said this might take 2-3 days to show.

Brief Answer:
no

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again ,
Sir , the fracture is visible on xray immediately after injury .
There is nothing like 2 or 3 days .
Other option is sprain , sprain is not visible on xray at any time .
