Question: Hello. My husband and I are interested in trying to have a baby, but there are three complications that tend to paralyze me when I think about trying to make an appointment with an infertility clinic. The most major complication is that my husband is 70. We have been married 2.5 years, and it is a first marriage for both of us, and neither of us have ever had children or know if we are fertile. In any case, we cannot now because while he is able usually to have an erection he cannot ejaculate. His urologist said that there is nothing wrong physically, just low libido. The second complication is that I am a practicing Catholic, so the only medical intervention we could have as far as bringing sperm and egg together would be for us to collect the sperm during intercourse and then have me inseminated with it. So he would need to be able to ejaculate. But even for an appointment at the clinics they say to expect that the man will have his sperm tested at the first appointment, and I do not know how they would test his sperm if he cannot ejaculate. He also takes Hytrin/Terozosin for prostate issues, and I read that might interact with drugs prescribed for erectile dysfunction--if that is what he would need. So I feel stuck, because the clinic I contacted did not reply to my email and it's a difficult conversation to have over the phone with someone at the receptionist desk. The third complication is that I am already 36. We are not desperate to have a child or even sure that it is the best thing for us to try for, but we wanted to look into it.
