Question: Hello I want to know few things related to my father.

He is 71 years old and is diabetic since last 6-7 years.

He is very particular towards his routine and diet and strict too.

He never drink alcohol neither smoke.

Except diabetes he dont have any other medical issue.

Last year in the month of November he recently had his all test done where his all blood reports came normal and TMT test came normal and ECG also normal.

My concern is today I found I feel like his feet is swelled though he said he do not have any pain neither have any problem while walking also he do walk like 10000 steps daily.

But today i saw and feel like his feet are swollen but he is saying his feet are like that only and i noticed this today but i am worried alot.

He is taking medicine for his diabetes which are METFORMIN and GLAVUS MET prescribed by his diabetes doctor.

His sugar levels are also normal and he do not have any BP problem his BP is 141.

Can you please confirm is there any thing serious or life threat or what it could be do other people also have these kinda swollen feet with no pain in feet and other problem??

Detailed Answer:
Hello there,

I've gone through your medical query and understand your concerns...

I would like to tell you that heart problems are very common in diabetic patients as compared to non-diabetic patients.

Possibilities of heart failure are there as you described his symptoms. I'd recommend you decrease his liquid intake to 1 liter per day for the time being and get a basic cardiac evaluation done again which includes 12 lead ECG and 2D-echocardiography. Also, get KFT done and consult with reports for a detailed opinion.

Hopefully, this information will guide you properly.

Kind Regards

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
If the echocardiogram done in feb was fine and he doesn’t have any chest period from that time onward then it’s alright and it’s not related to underlying cardiac issues. Also no need for any water restrictions.

Regarding his feet swelling it’s advisable that he should sit and lie down with feet slightly elevated for few days as that will help reduce swelling.

Does this pitting edema means death is near ? Does this have any permanent treatment or something?

Brief Answer:
Hello again

Detailed Answer:
No it’s doesn’t mean anything like that. The most common cause of getting one sided leg swelling is DVT which can be diagnosed by getting a lower limb venous Doppler done.

The concern of your father about not going to hospital is quite understandable, however if situation demands to get the test done then he should be motivated to go to doctor with proper precautions.

Kind Regards
