Is Benadryl Useful In Treating Hives On The Stomach As A Result Of An Allergic Reaction To Herbal Products?
Question: Hello. I have the common cold with symptoms of congestion, light cough and sore throat. I've been taking herbal teas and pills to strengthen my immunity to recover quickly suck as ColdFX and septillin as well as honey and other things. I've developed some hives on my stomach probably from some sort of allergic reaction to something. I've stopped taking all the herbs and I took a dose of 24 hour antihistamine at 11 am today, Reactine (cetirizine 10mg). The itching isn't bad but the hives are still there. It's nearly the 12 hour mark since I took Reactine, can I also take benadryl before sleeping before I hit the 24 hour mark? How long will this take to resolve ?

Hi,
Please see that for hives tab cetrizine 10 mg should be taken twice a day 12 hours apart , if the hives donot go away in next 2 days then add tab prednisolone 5 mg two times a day 12 hours apart
plus tab ranitidine 150 mg 12 hours apart , also take steam inhalation for cold etc .
If the cold and congestion is persisting you may take tab cozyplus ( combination of cetrizine plus phenylephrine ) three times but then omit prednisolone as prednisolone will aggravate cold.
Avoid herbal products for a week as herbal products are common causes of skin allergy as hives .
Instead of septillin or herbal products you may take vit c as tab suckcee 500 mg per day.

Thank you Dr for your response. Ok so I should take 1 tablet cetirizine 10mg every 12 hours. Can I take 2 tablets at once every 24 hours or is it better to separate them ? I don't know what the reaction came from. Maybe septillin or ginseng. It's strange because I have taken these herbs before without any reaction. Maybe because I'm taking them all at once ? Is this normal ?

Sometimes some drugs when combined with specific foods cause allergies as one of my relative is allergic to capsicum when consumed with colouring agents in sweets but not allergic to both of these when taken on separate days
Allergy may take upto 2 weeks to resolve .

Otherwise if a person takes good nutritious diet with multivitamin antioxidant combination that is enough to maintain immunity.
