Hello! I Have Had Three Blood Test Over The Last

Question: Hello! I have had three blood test over the last two months. I had severe abdominal pain thought to be from a ruptured ovarian cyst, from that encounter they checked my blood and concern grew over a lower platelet count of 128,000. A second test was done a week later and the platelet count was still 128K and all other readings were normal. The two issues have been acknowledge separately ever since. Since then I have had an additional ultra sound that shows I have another ovarian cyst that we're currently monitoring and had an appointment with a hematologist which was last week. The new blood results from last week's visit indicate a 149,000 platelet count but also a higher than normal MPV of 13.4 FL . The Doctor said it's likely ITP and said the levels are not concerning and that they suggest monitoring it yearly. Should I be concerned? Could the ovarian cyst and abdominal discomfort and the platelet counts be a result of an underlying issue? Slightly concerned over the recommendation of just yearly monitoring- I suspected at least every three months. Should advocate for that?

Brief Answer:
Platelets counts are almost within normal biological range with an elevated

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
The platelet count is mildly low, however, mean platelet volume (MPV) is slightly elevated.
Elevated MPV is suggestive of presence of large sized platelets.
Thus, the platelet count may be within normal range if platelets are counted on peripheral blood smear.
Yearly monitoring of platelets is acceptable and there is nothing to worry.
I suggest you to follow up the ovarian cyst with regular ultrasound abdomen to look for any increase in size of the ovarian cyst.

Thanks and take care
