Question: Hello Doctor..
Writing on behalf of my husband..

We are married for one and a half year but we didn't have intercourse yet.
In initial months it was due to shyness and later on (after 8-10 months) we started to try but attempts got failed (unable to insert), and within some time he suddenly found erection issues.
He was unable to get erection and when he gained, it vanished quickly before even attempting intercourse.
He got consulted from a local doctor, and got himself tested for all basic tests ( CBC, Urine analysis, RBS S. Testosterone) In the month of may 2020.
All tests were found normal and there after, doctor suggested following medicines and along with that the procedure of circumcision ( as his foreskin is stuck on inner area and it doesn't go back easily).
Medicines suggested were- Tazzle 10mg, Duralast 30, Mupirocin ointment IP

However erection issue is now solved but foreskin problem is still there.

We are a bit concerned about this suggested surgery, pls guide us if circumcision is the only way to get rid of this problem of foreskin? And what are the side-effects and consequences of this surgery

Brief Answer:
Circumcision is a minor surgery. No need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hi Ma'am

Thank you for asking ask a doctor service.

I have gone through your query with diligence. For phimosis (unable to retract foreskin properly) circumcision is the treatment of choice. If done properly there won't be any issues. Initially there will be some sensitivity to the circumcised area. But it will go gradually.
As you have difficulty in insertion circumcision is the best choice. It will also give more lasting erection and delayed ejaculation which will ease your sexual intercourse.

Let me know if anything not clear.
I am happy to help.
Thanks.

Thank You doctor for your advice..
But can you please guide us a little more regarding this surgery..

Any risk associated with this surgery.?
After surgery will he be able to lead his normal life or there will be any after effects.

We are scared to get this Operation done.

How much time does it take for complete recovery of wound and coming back to normal life?

Are there any kind of precautions to be taken before or after the surgery, if yes then for how long?

How much time does this surgery procedure takes?

Brief Answer:
Day care procedure. Return home on same day.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again.

Thank you for your follow-up query.

Circumcision is performed as a day care procedure under local anaesthesia. That is by injecting local anaesthetic near and around penis. This will aid to do a painless procedure. It will take around half an hour or less. After resting for 1 hour you can go home on same day.
So many methods are used. Laser method is recent one. But there are complications for this so can avoid this method.
Shield and clamp method is used now which will aid a safe procedure. Usually sutures are not needed. If bleeding there it can be stopped by diathermy.
Usual complications are bleeding and infection which is very rare now. Bleeding is less or absent recent circumcision procedures. Infection is also absent or rare as prophylactic antibiotics are given.
You need 7 to 10 days rest. Wound will recover in 1 week time itself. After 45 days from procedure you can go for sexual intercourse.
No precautions needed before surgery as it is a day care procedure.
Thanks.

Hello Doctor
Thanx for the explanation...

My husband is Really very scared for this surgery, how may I convince him for the same?

He is 29 and a chartered accountant.
After the surgery in how many days can he resume going to his office?
I mean 7-10 days of rest means a bed rest or just less exertion?
He can walk and sit after the procedure, right?
When can he start driving.?

Can we get assured that there will be no issue in his day today life and our sex life because of this surgery?

Brief Answer:
After 10 days he can resume going to office.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome again

Thank you for your follow-up query.

With phimosis he will be having difficulty in sexual intercourse and in future there will be getting infections again also. By telling this you have to convince him.
After 10 days he can resume going to office. Bed rest is usually needed only for 3 days. After 3 days he can walk. Driving all he can resume after 1 week.
There won't be any issues with his sexual life and instead it will improve only. Get a consultation with a general surgeon or urologist will be better. He will assure you for sure.
Thanks.
