Question: Hello Doctor!
I am of 40 years with 103 kg weight and 178 cms height. I am having cough (first time in my life) since a fortnight approx. It all started when I regularly followed a juice diet plan and reduced 6kgs. The severity of cough is so, that I have experienced cough syncope a few times during night and day time as well. There is discharge of mucus which was yellow most of the time few days back. Now it is white during day and grayish in the morning. There is also a sharp pain in forehead during and after the cough session. Please note that burping occurs almost always after the cough session. I have visited two doctors the prescriptions of same are attached. Besides their medications I have taken nimutal cold plus and Grilinctus cough syrup earlier.
Sadly, there has been no effect of any medications till now except the relieve in headache with nimutal cold plus. The cough persists till the mucus is discharged and after taking medications there was difficulty of mucus discharge which increased the severity of cough. Please diagnose the problem and suggest the remedy.
Thanks and Regards,

Brief Answer:
Better to get done chest x ray.

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

I can understand your concern.
I have gone through the prescriptions you have attached.
In my opinion, you should definitely get done chest x ray to rule out lung infection (pneumonia).
If chest x ray is normal then no need to worry for pneumonia.
Sometimes bronchitis (inflammation of airways) can also cause similar symptoms.
So get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
If PFT is showing obstructive defect then possibility of bronchitis is more likely.
Please let me know if you have habit of smoking.
You may need Mucolytic and expectorant drug like N acetyl cystine (NAC).
Sometimes inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone) are also beneficial.
Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
