Question: Hello Doctor..
I am hoping I can describe this accurately.... but I have been experiencing what feels like a pinching/pressure type pain on the left side of my neck from behind the collarbone up to my jawline. It comes on suddenly but is sporadic and may last a few seconds to a few minutes at a time .. My neighbor is an ER nurse and said from where I am telling him, it appears to be the arteries in my neck. I have no idea.. I can say that about a year ago I had Xrays taken and they did find arthritis in the back of my neck and left shoulder which flares up every now and then but this pressure on the side of my neck is very recent and worrisome. It is not the same type of pain I have previously experienced with my neck/shoulder issues. Any ideas as to what it could be? I am currently on a waiting list for my primary doctor due to all the COV-19 patients so I thought maybe you can shed some light in the interim. I have attached a picture of the area if that will help any.. Thank you much for your help !

Brief Answer:
Pinched nerve in neck possible.

Detailed Answer:
Hello dear, welcome to Ask a doctor's service.
I read your query and here is my advice.
I think this pinching pressure behind the collar bone up to jaw line in left side of the neck may be caused by pinched nerve in the neck. You had previously issues with your neck and shoulders and this may be a symptom of pinched nerve too.
The arthritis you had on your neck may have been getting worse and it this situation may be related to it.
An MRI may be needed to better evaluate the conditions of the spinal nerves.

Hope I have answered the question.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you, I appreciate your quick response as this was a concern to me. I will follow up with my doctor as to see if he is in agreement with your response.. I think what you said made much sense and I never thought of a pinched nerve. It is so bothersome..
May I ask, until I get to see my doctor, can you recommend any thing that I can do at home to help ease the pain assuming it is a pinched nerve?

Thank you again, so much !
