Brief Answer:
Liver / Kidney disease

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

Albumin is mildly decreased and the Albumin Globulin ratio is reversed.

This could be due to any one of the reasons:-

1. Long standing liver disease like cirrhosis in which albumin synthesis by the liver is affected

2. Loss of albumin in urine as in certain kidney diseases

3. Poor nutritional intake.

An ultrasound scan of the abdomen and urine analysis may be done as next step to find the cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello Doc,

We have done the ultrasound and urine routine tests . I am attaching the reports for the same. Can you please tell me what further investigations are required. Also tell me the ratio that is revered is a matter of concern? As my dad is a heart patient he has gone through angioplasty 4 months back and is on all medications . We had not tested LFT from quite sometime and now it seems to be a matter of concern. Please advice .

Also he seems to have stones in the kidney but of 3mm is that a matter of concern as his waterintake is restricted to 1.5 to 2 liters including food and everything due to his heart problem .

Please advise.

Brief Answer:
Repeat LFT after 4 weeks

Detailed Answer:

Hi,

The urine test and USG abdomen have ruled out liver disease and kidney disease causing the mildly decreased albumin. So there is no need to worry.

You can repeat the LFT after 4 weeks for reassessment. You also need not worry about the 3 mm renal calculus.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello doc,

WE had done the Serum Protein Electrophoresis test also since the results in the liver profile showed decreased albumin and the Albumin Globulin ratio is reversed.

Can you please evaluate the attached report and confirm .

Hello Doc,

WE got the Protein Electro report done because the Liver function report showed decreased albumin and the Albumin Globulin ratio is reversed.

But the electro report is normal then what could be the cause of Albumin Globulin ratio reversed.
Please advice

Hi,

You need to take the latest test report which is protein electrophoresis as the correct report. Kindly ignore the previous report.
