Question: My daughter aged 11 years detected thyroid T3 216.39& TSH 7.319 and after that from 3 weeks she has got severe stomach pain and nausea. The doctor then asked to take us scan and blood test and it says two enlarged lymph nodes and impressions ? acute appendicitis and blood report leucocytes count 6840 and referred to a surgon. He prescribed surgery note required and given rantac 150 and cyclopam. But still she is having stomach pain. during day time its bearable and night its very severe. Kindly advise ?

Hello Mr. S and thanks for the query
I have read your query with diligence. Your sonography report is little confusing and we can not confirm Appendicitis as your leukocytes counts are within normal limit. TLC have to be raised in acute appendicitis. May be that is the reason your surgeon advised you that surgery is not required.

Not the other finding that has reported in your sonography report is enlarged lymph nodes. There are possibility that pain in abdomen may be due to enlarged lymph node. For this you need to find out the cause for enlarged lymph node and accordingly take a course of effective antibiotic with anti-inflammatory drugs. Continue Rantac and Cyclopam as advised by your doctor.

Some of the causes for enlarged lymph node are:
1. Infection: The infection may be bacterial or viral.
2. Inflammation of the node
3. Malignancy like lymphoma.

In my personal opinion before getting started to any treatment you must repeat your daughter's sonography and TLC (Total leukocyte count) from a reliable center. These are necessary to establish a diagnosis. Keep a record of temperature for next 24 hrs.

As per thyroid is concern your daughter's value are mildly raised and you need to consult your endocrinologist that whether she needs any medication or not.

Get back after the investigation reports. Write back if you have any related query

Well, this all started about 7-8 weeks ago. The first thing that happened was vomiting one Monday evening. It was the worst vomiting I had ever experienced. The next day, I woke up with horrible pain in my upper right flank. I went to my PCP, and she thought that it had to something with my gallbladder, so she sent me for an ultrasound of my gallbladder, right kidney, liver and pancreas. That came back fine, so she sent me to a GI to figure out why I was vomiting(about once a week) and diarrhea(three to four times daily). I had an upper and lower scope performed. I was diagnosed with Barrett s, hiatal hernia and IBS. Also, when they did the ultrasound they did find swollen lymph nodes in my colon(mesenteric adenitis). Meanwhile, this whole time I am experiencing horrible fatigue, heated face, elevated body temperature(99.5-100), pain all over my right side and back. When my GI told me that what he diagnosed me with did not explain the fatigue and low grade fever, I once again had to go back to my PCP. Let me tell you; I have been so emotional since this all started. I am crying for no reason, I feel like I have constant brain fog. So, when my PCP came into the room(she is also an OBGYN), and I begged her to make me feel better, and she pretty much told me there was nothing wrong with me, I started crying. How dare she! Anyway, back to the story. She decided to run some more blood tests and do a urine analysis. So, she said all of the blood tests came back okay. Then, today, I get a call saying there was bacteria growing in my urine, and she wanted to know what my symptoms were so she could just diagnose me with a UTI. Here s my concern: I have had several UTI s in my life, most of which traveled to my kidney. I have had Gonorrhea and Clymadia when I was 21 and naieve, but I took antibiotics and tested negative for it a later date. So, now she just wants to throw antibiotics at me, and I have been sick for almost two months. Could this just have been a UTI this whole time? Also, I do have the pain in my upper right flank as well in the pelvic area. Thank you.

Hello Doctor, my boyfriend has mesenteric adenitis and is having a hard time keeping down what he eats. He starts to feel better when he hasn't eaten for a couple hours but when it comes time to eat dinner or lunch or anything he for the most part throws it back up or has diarrhea. I was wondering what he should and/or shouldn't eat while having this.

My son has stomach pain and a general unwell feeling, he is weak, pale, no fever. This all started with a stomach flu the beginning of Feb. He is still in pain and we have been told it is probably mesenteric adenitis. Is it normal for him to still be in pain. He is 10.
