Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Any prolonged cough ( > 2 -4 weeks) must be investigated to rule out lower respiratory ( lung ) infection (bacterial or tubercular etc) or a lung pathology ( like COPD or bronchitis ).
The cough syrups you mentioned are just symptomatic treatment and will not cure the cough if the cause is infection.
Hence it's advisable you consult your chest physician for a thorough evaluation( X-ray , blood test etc) and management .
Depending on your chest examination and X-ray findings your doctor might prescribe appropriate antibiotics and bronchodilators if needed.
Please do not take the cough syrups without consulting your doctor as they may provide only temporary relief not a permanent cure.
Hope I have answered your query.
Ill be available for any follow up queries.
Regards

Hello doctor XXXXX i AM JUST ENQUIRING ABOUT MY BREATHING PROBLEM, Its in the middle of the chest , it is a bit like astmea but its not. I have had a breathing problems since about this time last year. What happened was i know this sounds silly but it did actually happen. A man at a swimming baths grabbed my head as i was about to sneeze , And discharged a cough down my throat . It was a chesty deep cough he did I think i breathed some of it in, before that i have never had breathing problems on this scale. Could it be that i have caught a disease or virus off him. After all they do say cough and sneezes spread diseases.

Over the past 3 weeks I have been increasingly getting sicker and sicker. A family doctor put me on Zithromax and a codeine cough syrup for my major congestion and constant coughing... Nothin helped and a week or so later I was prescribed prednisone and doxycycline . The doxycycline made me so nauseous I would throw up within a half hr of taking it so I stopped. I have been super nauseous, getting major headaches, and coughing constantly to the point that I have both major headaches and I am constantly throwing up. My chest is super sore and it is getting really hard to breath. I took a breath test a few days ago and scored 620/1000... Even after a breathing treatment. It s gotten worse since then. Now I can hardley breath at times, my muscles are sore and I feel super tired in instances where I shouldn t be (climbing stairs) and completely out off breath. Also, my heart rate has been over 100 for almost 2 days now... Fast enough that I can t sleep now. Thoughts?
