Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Firstly, I would like to let you know that erection problems are fairly common in men. The most important part in management of this problem is to find out the cause for the erectile dysfunction. Only if a correct cause is found, then treatment can be given appropriately. Now, there can be a variety of causes for erection problems - both medical causes as well as psychological causes. So, the first step is to have a thorough evaluation. This will include a detailed medical and sexual, a thorough physical examination and certain investigations, as per the necessity.

Erectile dysfunction can be caused due to certain medical conditions like diabetes, hormonal problems, blood flow problems, vitamin deficiencies, etc. So, firstly, you need to have a few tests done.

At the same time, I would also like to let you know that in more than 80% of cases of erectile dysfunction, psychological factors also play a major role in causing or aggravating the problem. Stress, anxiety, fears and doubts regarding sexual performance, feelings of sexual inadequacy, self-doubts, guilt, past negative sexual experiences, etc. can all affect sexual functioning and performance.

Coming to the treatment part, like I said before, treatment is targeted according to the cause found on evaluation. If there are any underlying medical problems resulting in the erectile dysfunction, then those problems have to be first treated. If the problem is more psychological, then removing the person's doubts, anxieties and fears, and improving his self-confidence levels will improve sexual performance.

There are also certain medication which are used to treat erection problems, such as Sildenafil, Tadalafil, etc. These medicines improve the blood flow to the penis and promote better erection. But you will need to take them only with a proper prescription from a doctor.

So, I would advise you to consult a sexologist in person to have a detailed evaluation done and start appropriate treatment. Don't worry, in most of the cases (especially in young persons), this problem can be cured completely. Avoid alcohol, smoking and stress, and try to stay positive and confident.

The back pain which you have mentioned may be unrelated to the erection problem. It could be due to a muscle strain or bad posturing, etc. You can manage this by taking a mild anti-inflammatory medication and by following proper postural exercises.

Wish you all the best.
