Question: I've been belching a lot lately. And, I recently started having a burning sensation in my breast/chest. I can feel bubbling in my chest and stomach area. I went to the hospital and I had a high heart rate. I've noticed that my heart rate goes up when I try going to sleep at night. I took Pepcid Acid Complete for my belching and Naproxen to relieve myself of the burning sensation. I was diagnosed at the doctor two days ago with acid reflux. But, I don't understand this burning sensation in my breast. Could this be anything else?

Brief Answer:
It is pain from GERD

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thank you for posting in XXXXXXX

GERD is the reflux of stomach contents through the esophagus into the neck. The contents of the stomach instead of going down into small intestine, comes up. This causes burning sensation in the centre of the chest, sometimes radiates to the breast. As the breast attaches to the center of the chest, the pain will radiate to the breast. It simulates heart attack. So, it is called heartburn. Increased heart rate can be due to anxiety.

If the diagnosis of acid reflux is confirmed, then the treatment given by your doctor works.

In some patients, I add Sucralfate with Oxetacaine syrup.

It is better to get an Upper GI endoscopy and confirm Helicobacter pylori infection. If the infection is present, you need antibiotic course.

Hope i answered your query.
