Have Baldness Due To Heredity. Which One Is Better Nioxin System 2 Or Regaine?

Question: Hi,

I have a baldness due to heredity, I'm 32 yrs and I had started loosing hair from about 6 yrs ago. I'm trying to get some improvement /some benefit in my condition.
I know there is no 100% success for treatment /medicine available for hair loss. what I am looking for is some benefit in growing new hair. I come across these 2 products and I want to know which one is better for me? Nioxin system 2 or Regaine?

Nioxin comes in a different version, for my natural thinning hair (not coloured) Nioxon 2 is recommended. For your knowledge, they come in three part system as in, Shampoo, Conditioner, and Scalp Treatment. What I'm referring is the scalp treatment and comparing it against Regaine product, which one is better for me?

Nioxin:
info: WWW.WWWW.WW
Contents inside Nioxon: WWW.WWWW.WW

"Regaine"

Info: WWW.WWWW.WW au It contains 5% minoxidil

Could you please assist with my query, which one is better, I don't know side effects of minoxidil, which is the primary substance in Regaine product. Regaine is also expensive so do you think use of Nioxin will give me any benefit, given the fact is they contains the ingredient which is used in sun screen lotion?? !

thanks !

Hello,
Welcome to healthcare magic.
Hereditary hair fall is a patterned hair fall. I guess this was confirmed by a doctor. Male pattern baldness will have decreased density of hair over temples, forehead and vertex, not over back and side of scalp.

If your hair loss is male pattern, Minoxidil 5% is the treatment of choice. It is the US FDA approved treatment for male pattern baldness.

You need to take it for a long time as we cannot cure the genetic problem but can halt the process.
Tablet Finasteride 1 mg daily once orally is also an approved treatment for baldness. It will give you added benefit along with minoxidil 5% 1 ml local application twice a day.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Take care

Hi Dr. Chacko,

thanks for your response, I would like to know, what is your thought for Nioxin 2? Will that give me benefit in my condition ? As you know my baldness due to heredity. I've provided the link earlier if you're interested in knowing the ingredients in it. Is this a useful product, do you know? Regaine is really expensive solution for me so I just want to gauge Nioxin.

thanks, XXXXX

Hello XXXXXXX
I had gone through the active ingredients of Nioxin the previous time itself and thanks for the link which made it easier.

Nioxin apart from containing sunscreens also contain vitamins and anti-oxidants which are good and nourishing for hair. It will be a better treatment than Regaine if you are having a hair loss called telogen effluvium, characterised by diffuse hair loss (all over the scalp) which is mainly brought on by physical or psychological stress.

But Regaine (Minoxidil 5%) will be a better treatment for hereditary or male pattern baldness. As you are having male pattern baldness I will recommend Regaine or any other cheaper brands of Minoxidil 5% solution. When I searched net for minoxidil preparations available in Australia I came across Hair Again 5% and Minoxidil Extra Strength 5% which are cheaper.

Nioxin is useful as an adjuvant, like an add on treatment, not the main treatment, but then you are worried about the cost.

Minoxidil solution after application may cause irritation or itching over scalp in a minority of patients. In such cases solution should be switched to gel or foam form. Head ache is also a side effect seen in some patients and chance is more in patients suffering from migraine.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help.
Take care
