Question: Hi Doctor! I had my last periods on 15th Sept,2013 and on 21st Sept,2013, I had sex with my husband, As pasrt of the foreplay, my husband injected his penis inside vagina but took out within 5-6 seconds. There was no discharge of cum from him inside me. Just to be sure that I do not get pregnant I took I pill after almost 22 hours. Later that month I had to undergo alot of stress at work and home. In October,2013 I was expecting my periods but they have not come yet. Also, around 2ndoctober,2013, some dry blood clots like black in color were getting discharged for 2-3 days in my urine. Had little bit bleeding very little in urine only on 3rd october,2013. Y I havent got my periods yet?

Brief Answer:
I-PILL & MENTAL STRESS CAUSE LATE PERIOD.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to us. Followings are my comments:

According to your Last Menstrual Period date (15th Sept), you did unprotected sex on safe period (21st Sept) with pulled out method. Additionally, you took an I-pill within first 24 hrs which gives you more than 95% protection. Herein, your chance of pregnancy is extremely rare.

In this context, I-pill is the responsible cause for late period due to hormonal imbalance and mental stress. It is a common phenomena and most women get their period within 1 to 2 weeks of due date.

Blood clot or mild bleeding in urine on 2nd October (if you are not mistaken the withdrawal bleeding) may be due to asymptomatic urinary tract infection. One urine examination (routine, microscopic and culture) would be worthwhile to rule out the underlying causative agent . Drink plenty of water (2.5 - 3 lit/ Day) or Cranberry juice. Maintain genital hygiene and empty bladder in time.

Last thing, I suggest you to undergo one home pregnancy test to exclude rare possibility of pregnancy and it helps to clear doubt. On negative test, you will take progesterone pill (like norethisterone etc) to induce your period. In such case, you must consult with local doctor for a complete prescription.

In addition, you would take balanced diet, avoid mental stress by regular yoga or meditation, keep bowel habit regular and take sound sleep. This will help to hasten your period.

Hope, I have answered your query. If you need any clarification, you can freely ask me.

Wish your good health and practice safe sex in future also.

Dr Soumen

Brief Answer:
FOLLOW THE GUIDELINE.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for follow up query.

I have already mentioned in my earlier text that mental stress or depression is the responsible cause for delayed period and you can't predict it. Other reasons could be hormonal imbalance (due to I-Pill), high prolactin, over weight, improper diet habit, pelvic infection etc.

Your chance of pregnancy is extremely rare. If you are very much sure about pulled out method on safe period, then pregnancy is ruled out. In that case, I suggest to consult with your gynecologist for clinical examination and tests if required.

As your period due date is already 2 weeks passed, then it is better to induce by medication (like norethisterone). You will get your period within 3 to 5 days of stopping the pill. Another thing, you must avoid mental stress by meditation in the morning regularly (15-30 min). It is must needed to hasten your period.

Until you get an appointment to your doctor, you can take these food stuffs like pineapple, papaya, sugarcane juice, chicken, hot milk, broccoli, fennel seeds, salmon fish (rich in vitamin D & calcium), green vegetables (like spinach, brinjal etc), fish or fish oil (rich in omega-3 fatty acid), almonds, sesame seeds, soy milk, yoghurt dairy product, boiled egg, red or black grapes, tofu or paneer etc. These are quite helpful to induce period.

Hope, I have guided you properly. If you don't have any other query, you can close the discussion.

All the best. Good luck.

Regards,
Dr Soumen
