Brief Answer: Not really unless there are other symptoms Detailed Answer: Hi and thank you so much for this query. From the information you have provided, i don't think you should be very concerned about this. I will advise that you maintain your regular 10yearly colonoscopy for screening of colon cancer. So long as they have not shown any lesions to be concerned about, ignore the shape of these stools. if the last one dates to more than 10years back, please consider scheduling one at your earliest convenience. If for real this were caused by a disease, the change in size from a pencil to the direct opposite wold not be possible. Thy are more likely to be explained by other not permanent factors like bowel movements and diets consistency which are non pathological. I hope this addresses your query fully. Thank you for using our services and please do feel comfortable to ask for clarifications if need be. I wish you the best of health. Dr. Ditah, MD

i am an army officer presently serving in CI Operational area in the kashmir valley. I have undergone surgery for fissures chronic. today i read an article in dna paper which says that 15% of piles , fistula patients suffer obstructed defecation and seem that i may suffer from the same decease. due to this problem i am facing a lot problem specially when we are away on operation duties and it requires to go to the bathroom a number of times or you remain hungry for the period you are away. I have been opted for the said fissure in 1988,1996 and 2007. still the rectum doesn t work properly and stool remain stuck about 5-6 from the anus which needs to be cleared by the finger and a lot of mucus comes out during the process and at later stages. so please tell me about STARR procedure and financial involvement as MRI defecography facilities are not available in the army/navy hosp. It will be a great help to me to discharge my duties in field/peace area as i am suffering from this decease for last 25 yrs. thanks.

I have had a couple of incidents where skin protrudes from my anus after having a bowel movement. I have spoken with my P.C.P. about it. She called it a reticulated rectum I believe. Is it something I should pursue with a specialist, or should I...
