Question: Hi I have been active with sexual activity this summer but I am also an active person the last time I had sex was three weeks ago but I always use protection if I'm not exactly familiar with the person... I have been having some itchiness in the groin area mainly and feel burning sensation in the head of the penis with a frequent urge to urinate. I don't have any boils, sores or anything filled with liquid
But I am worried that it is an std like herpes it is constantly on my mind. Could this be herpes ?

Brief Answer:
Your symtoms are not of herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome and thanks for posting your to XXXXXXX

I can understand your concern for the possibility of herpes.

According to your query you have itching over groin and feels burning sensation in the head of penis with frequent urge to urinate.

Now to tell you the best part is that you do not have herpes or any of the symptoms which match with herpes or its symptoms or any other Sexually Transmitted Diseases.

To tell you medically - Herpes lesions manifest itself as small vesicles (fluid filled blisters) which remains for just a day or two and then forms ulcers which are quite painful. These ulcers then heals in next 5-7 days.

To begin with also these vesicles are quite painful and itchy with discomfort and once the vesicles burst in a day or two then the ulcers which are formed are quite painful for next 4-5 days. So the symptoms can never go unnoticed.
In yourself I can make out that no such symptom is present matching with the above symptoms.

So you can test assured regarding the rarest possibility of herpes.

Now the symptoms of burning sensation in the head of penis with frequent urge to urinate can be because of the Urinary tract infection (UTI). This can be because of both Sexually Transmitted Infection as well simple cause. In Yours it also appears to be due to simple microorganisms present on the skin or due to nonspecific cause.

To differentiate the simple cause to that of Sexually Transmitted Infection - there is profuse pus discharge with other of the symptoms such as pain and moderate to seer irritation in in UTI caused by Sexually Transmitted Infections. This UTI part can be nonspecific also due to less drinking of the water other than infectious cause.

So the good news for you is that you not have any Sexually Transmitted Infection. But for the part of UTI I recommend you to drink plenty of water and liquids (2-3 liters) per day to flush out any infection if present.

For the part of itching in the groin - it is a simple nonspecific symptom and can be treated by maintaining good hygiene. You wear cotton clothes and cotton undergarments with two time bath eery day.

Do use protection always every-time whether familiar or unfamiliar person because condoms provide almost 99.99% protection against all the Sexually Transmitted Diseases including HIV.

Hope I have answered your query, if you have any further query I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health

Brief Answer:
Your condition is totally normal

Detailed Answer:
Hello young fellow,

Welcome to the forum again and thanks for so swift reply.

As I said previously, the herpes lesions are typically noticeable with burning pain, ulceration and healing in next 5-7 days. It is one of the very common Sexually Transmitted Disease which we encounter in our day to day STD practice. One can not just miss it by any means- especially the patient himself. It is typically seen as "fluid filled multiple vesicles" which you can see on net as a ready reference.

The incubation period (the period from exposure and contact of virus to the clinical manifestation as vesicles) may vary from person to person but it generally takes 4-14 days of period. It simply means if you have had unprotected intercourse then it takes 4 days to 14 days to manifest herpes.

As I said your symptoms do not at all match with any kind of Sexually Transmitted Disease, so there is no question of any disease as well as curability and in-curability of the condition.

I can understand that you do not want to miss anything or any stone unturned before you get totally satisfied but understanding all your symptoms thoroughly doesn't make sense of any Sexually Transmitted Disease.

As I already told you young man, the best part in your case is that you have particularly used condoms which makes us protected from all sorts of STD's. So you need not to be worried about any type of disease including the most problematic of all i.e. HIV infection too!!

Do not get paranoid for anything as I have seen in my clinical practice as patients experiencing so problematic states not because of the disease but just because of the stress related to the possibility of disease.

So as an expert I request you to kindly relax yourself and stop thinking about the simple problem.
I hope that you must be satisfied now and if you have any further query I will be happy to help.
Wish you good health
