Girl Is Having Excessive Hair Growth Everywhere In Body. What Could Be The Problem?
Question: hi doc my sister has too many fur everywhere in body, she is girl and her fur are smiliar to men where could be the prob ?

Excessive hair growth in females could be of two types
Hypertrichosis where there is increased hair density or excessive hair growth all over the body.
Hirsutism is excessive and thick hair growth in females with a male distribution pattern i.e. presence of hair on face, chest, chin abdomen etc.
From the description, it seems she is having hirsutism.
There could be many causes for the same like polycystic ovarian disease, tumors of adrenal or ovarian gland( growth of hair abruptly), congenital adrenal hyperplasia, drugs like steroids, phenytoin, cyclosporine, danazol too can induce such growth. Sometimes it could be without any cause and seem to run in families.
to rule out the underlying cause, these tests are required
Serum LH, FSH, PROLACTIN, TESTOSTERONE, DHEAS, INSULIN, CORTISOL etc with ultrasound uterus and adenexa.
Treatment in such cases is usually in the form of laser hair reduction of affected area and gives wonderful results.
