Hello,

Thanks for posting your query. There are a few possibilities which need to be ruled out in your daughter’s case. These include:

1)     Frequent colds and fever can e brought on by allergies especially respiratory allergies. They may also contribute to conditions like asthma or make people more prone to be asthmatic when they get common colds and flu. So it is advisable to get her allergy tested for respiratory allergens by getting allergy testing involving skin tests and blood tests like RAST done.

2)     She may be having a lowered immune system which predisposes her to frequent infections soon. Poor diet and low iron contents causing anemia may cause lack of essential nutrients which may make her body less fit to fight germs. Eating a healthy, balanced diet and hydrating your body with plenty of water can help her immune system be stronger. Also get her hemoglobin levels checked to check for any anemia.

3)     Lyme disease may lower the immune system of the body by affecting the natural killer cells and the cytokines which are the first guards of defense against any infection. Give her a healthy diet and make her drink adequate water. It can also be due to thyroid causes. So get her thyroid function tests done.

4)     Sometimes frequent infections can be due to lack of proper hygiene or contact with infections. For example your child may be coming in contact with children carrying infections or who are sick in the school or neighborhood. Please keep a check on it and try to avoid her coming in contact with sick or ill children.

Please get the above mentioned investigations done which will rule out any medical causes related to frequent infections.
