My daughter behaves irritable, aggressive just before and during the currency of her periods some times. She becomes cool after the end of periods. Is there any remedy in homeo or ayurvedic medicine. She is having brief psychotic episodes less than a week with respect to stressfull event in her school. During the year she behaved twice like this(Jan,2013 and October,2013). She has travelling sickness. In the month of XXXXXXX we went to GOA, after returning from GOA she behaved first time like that. I lost my brother in the month of September 2012. That left a scar on her. First time the symptoms are so severe(but short period less than two days) and this time not so severe but she is so irritated. She was exposed to pornography and face book, when I left my internet connection at home for her study purpose. She cries for a silly issues. I am seeing dramatic changes and agitation in her after puberty. She is easily frustrated and short tempered one week prior to periods and during the periods. If I dont scold her also, she says I am scolding her. When I give any instruction of discipline, she says I am scolding her. She is healthy and matured. She is a high achiever. She is very bold and fears no one. She directly speaks to principal. She can not accept failure. She feels so jealous when some one talks closely with me(mother). Her irritation goes to such an extent she will hit me. Not able to control the anger when she is not successfull in completion of her school notes(class work, home work). She takes up too many activities in the school such as participates in elecution, book review, games, anchoring, painting etc. what not. Every activity she participates and wins prizes. During this process she neglects her regular studies. When teachers scolds her, she feels so much and thinks that they are concentrating on her. With these triggers she feels so depressed and does not show interest in watching TV, Doing yoga etc. She always feels about her pimples on the face and dandruff(which is very mild). Imagines so much about her scalp. We experienced two episodes as of now. One in the month of January 2013 and the other in the month of October 12th i.e. During Dussera(festival) holidays. She has studied extensively in the internet about adoloscence behaviour. when ever she is irritated she tells that adoloscents behaves like this only due to hormone changes. You parents could not understand the hormonal changes. She behaves just like me, when I behave in anger and irritated. She mimics me in all respects. Even I am having the same behaviour during my childhood that I should only get centre of attention and I should come first in the class and I used to be all rounder. I was very high achiever and Gold medalist. I am hyper active. Always feel to do something, new ventures. My relation with my husband is not good and its always quarrelsome and we fight in front of children many times. But I never behaved like hittng my parents etc. Those days we are very fearful towards our parents. Now lot of freedom is given to my child. We fulfil her needs without any delay. I am a working women in XXXXXXX mangement position in a company. Her father was a Police man hardly has good relation with children. She is eldest daughter and she has younger brother. Both children hate their father. He man-handles my daughter since her childhood. My daughter always says she needs a room and she would like to independent and needs identity. She does not like interference by me in her activities. She feels high self esteem. In school also she craves for greater attention from the teachers. She studies well except in Maths which she does not like. She is very good at english and she writes poems, quotations and articles. In the month of July, school selections were on. She expected deputy Head girl position. She did not get that position. That day onwards she started feeling depressed and it triggered second episode of agitation, irritation, aggressive XXXXXXX sometimes unusual behaviour(which lasted for less than a week, irrelevant talk, excessive talk singing songs in the night, dancing alone closing doors, roaming outside i.e. neighbour house always etc). She does not like to stay at home when I was there at home. If she has school she goes to school. She behaves normal in the school. If teachers say something, she cries immediately. I used to be very sensitive towards critisism during my childhood. There is no first degree relatives with any psychotic disorders I feel so. I don't know I may be having mild psychosis. Sometimes I feel so agitated and uncontrollable anger and I beat children very much. But I have never visited a psychologist. I do have feeling blues just before the periods, I feel like I want to suicide and cries for nothing. My brother was Alchohol addict and died due to cardiac arrest and had epilepsy during his teenage. After that no symptoms of fits were seen till he died. During his teenage he eloped from house and returned after two years. First time in the month of Jan(first episode) we used Sizodon Plus, quitapin 50mg, Haldol, Chloromazine -50 mg. used these medicines for one week. She became normal after her periods. This time using Sizodon plus, Oxetol-150 mg XR, Ativan -0.5 mg. only in the night since 18/10/2013. I hope she became normal after her periods. Because of these tablets, she became more irritated and crying and saying me to kill her. I stopped the medicine - Ativan last night and gave sizodon plus Half tablet and oxetol 150 mg. only in the night. I would like to stop these medications and continue to find a way out in Homeo or Ayurveda. Because of side effects, all the day she is so dull and could not concentrate on her studies and complaining that I am treating her un-necessarily. Please advise whether I can discontinue this medicines, as I saw lot of improvement in her. Is this normal or something is wrong with her. Whether this goes normal with Age i.e adulthood.

Brief Answer: ADHD Detailed Answer: Dear XXXXXXX Thanks for contacting Ayurveda with health related query of your daughter and after going through the case history, following work up is advised. 1. since there is/are significant problems of attention [craving for attention from teachers at school] and/or hyperactivity [too many activities] and acting impulsively [disruptive behavior and hitting with foul language], probably we are dealing with ADHD [attention deficit hyperactive disorder]. 2. these people have difficulties with social skills, such as social interaction and forming and maintaining friendships [easy jealousy] 3. as in your history there are phrases of stubbornness, aggression, frequent temper tantrums, it probably wants a psychiatric evaluation to rule out Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) and conduct disorder (CD), which apart from the above said symptoms also include deceitfulness, lying, and stealing. ?? are there any of these anti social activities in her?? 4. since you also suffered from the same in your teen, thus could be Genetic. 5. Environmental factors like Alcohol intake during pregnancy or Exposure to tobacco smoke during pregnancy can cause problems with central nervous system development and can increase the risk. [any history of the same]?? 6. recent studies have pointed increased academic expectations as a diagnostic method. 7. since there are mix of psychiatric symptoms like . depression [ Irritability, low tolerance for stress, thoughts of suicide] . anxiety [ worry, hyper alert, difficulty paying attention] and . mania [ racing thoughts, aggression, excess talking and inappropriate social behavior] thus differential diagnosis with a Psychiatrist [for line of treatment] and counseling [psychosocial] is a must. 8. In Ayurveda I particularly treat the patient on the line of 'unmada' as suggested by (manovaha/vatavyadhi: Acharaya Charak) and mine successful prescription in such cases are: 1. XXXXXXX bhasma 100mg Chandravleha 10gm with milk 2 times . 2. Vacha churna 500mg Kushta churna 500mg Parseekyavani churna 500mg with brahmi ghrita 3 times. 3. Mann XXXXXXX vati 2 XXXXXXX vati 1 at bed time. with Ashwagandha arishta 20ml with equal amount of water i.e. 40 ml total 4. Massage with shatdhauta ghrita/himsagar taila or purana ghrita scalp massage. PS . Avoid ginger, garlic, onion and hot spices as they promote negative thoughts in mind, instead use coriander, mint. . Avoid pepper, alcohol, mustard oil, pickles, rye, spicy and incompatible food, excess sleeping and physical exertion, and food with hot potency. . 1 and 3 number medicines are made by myself, so if you want to start with the above said prescription [at your discretion], do let me know.
