Question: ENT
Kindly send this to the ENT only, as I require a definite direction by the doctor.
Dear Doctor,
I am 75 year old. I have had BPPV from 2012. I have tinnitus since 2009. As usual i have visited ENT s and physicians. Everybody is prescribing Vertin 16 mg or 24 mg twice a day. I know that there is no cure for minnears disease. I have 60 % loss in left ear and 40 % loss in right ear. Occasionally i have ringing sound or sounds of sea waves etc. I also know surgery is not
desirable at this age and also no guarantee for its recurrence. few and far between i experience Vertigo which lasts for an hour or two. When ever it comes, I wear Cervical collar and take vertin and sit quietly. The vertigo goes off quickly in two or three hours. I take 16 mg vertin thrice a day for 2 or 3 days .These ringing sounds do not always present. At times i experience them. There is no discharge or pain or what soever. The only problem is VERTIGO. I also know there is no cure for this.
Is Vertin the only medicine on the earth to treat. Or is there any other medicine to be taken along with vertin. I do not want to under go Epley menuver or Brandt menuver.Dr Schiller from XXXXXXX in one of his guest
lectures said that these menuvers do not help much for vertigo or neck exercises either.
As such finally for once i am asking you to give your valuable advise in the matter and any other treatment for vertigo. I have taken Ecosprin Av for 5 years and then shifted to Deplatt cv from 2017.Does Ismo or Ecoprin triggers vertigo? pl advise sir.
I take many medicines which includes Betacard, Amtas Ismo(from 1996),Glycomet ,Urimax ,Deplatt cv , &Thyronorm
Thanking you Sir,
doctor

Brief Answer:
Menieres disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to HealthcareMagic and thanks for putting up the query
The triad of hearing loss, ringing in the ears and vertigo is usually menieres disease. It is not a positional vertigo so the manoeuvres like epleys don't help.
Betahistine or Vertin is prescribed for vertigo. You should take 16mg thrice daily. Also take tablet promethazine or stemetil thrice daily.
Take capsule vitamin b12 supplement 1500 mg once daily.
In case of very severe symptoms, patient is hospitalised and intravenous medication is done to lower down ear pressure and hence relieve symptoms.
You can try using a hearing aid. Thus also helps with symptoms in few cases.
I hope my advise proves helpful.
All the medicines I have prescribed will be available only on prescription.
Any further questions are always welcome.
Take care
Thanks and regards

Brief Answer:
Meniere's disease

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Its no and Ecospirin are cardiac medicines. They can cause orthostatic hypotension and thus can cause vertigo.

Stugeron is prescribed for tinnitus and can be taken along with betahistine.
Naf20 and amrodyl to my knowledge don't have any effect on Menieres..Thus you must avoid these.

Postural change can aggravate the symptoms. You must avoid any abrupt change. The medicines can help to control these symptoms.

Any further questions are always welcome.

Take care
Thanks and regards
