Does Tonsillitis Cause Fever?

Question: Hello Doctor

My Son is 6 years and since yesterday is having fever. His Paediatrician has said that it is because of Tonsilitis with Little puS, Does fever come in Tonsilitis, How long does it last? Does fever come with Chillis

Hi...

1. Tonsillitis does cause fever.
2. High fever can cause chills and even rigors.
3. The duration depends on the antibiotic used and the virulence of the offending organism.

Do not use Meftal-P for fever. It can cause gastritis and renal complications.

Usually I suggest Amoxycillin Clavulenate at 40mg/kg/day for 10 days.

It takes 3-4 days after appropriate antibiotic therapy for the fever to settle.

But fever with chillis is a regular symptom rite.. I am worried as fever goes once we give him medicines and after sometime it again comes with chills. I am worried

Hi....you are right.... Fever with chills is a regular symptom whenever there's high fever or pus anywhere in the body.

These chills and rigors will settle only when the fever remits.

Please use the antibiotic suggested at appropriate dose and duration.
